H&M and Zara affected by extended fast fashion ban

A year after the French resale platform Vestiaire Collective declared war on fast fashion items and banned some brands from the website, it is now banning further suppliers.

The platform will expand its ban on fast fashion and permanently ban Gap, Zara, Urban Outfitters, Uniqlo, Mango, Benetton, Bershka, Oysho, H&M and others in the future, Vestiaire Collective founders Fanny Moizant and Sophie Hersan said in a statement Letter on the website with. Items have previously been sold by Shein, Asos, Atmosphère, Boohoo, Burton, Coast, Dorothy Perkins, Fashion Nova, Karen Millen, Miss Selfridge, Missguided, Na-Kd, Nasty Gal, Oasis, Pretty Little Things, Topman and Topshop as well as Warehouse by removed from its platform and excluded from sale.

Like the previous ban, the measure comes immediately before Black Friday. The move is part of Vestiaire Collective’s three-year plan to combat unsustainable practices in the fashion industry and eventually eliminate all fast fashion brands from its offerings.

To achieve the goal, the Resale platform has been working since last year with the Or Foundation, a US and Ghana-based aid organization that advocates for justice and sustainability in the clothing industry.

To ensure that the items no longer allowed to be sold on Vestiaire Collective due to the new regulation do not simply end up unwanted elsewhere, the company plans to offer various solutions for these products. These solutions include carrying, repairing, recycling, upcycling, and strategic donations.
