It’s already over for Renze Klamer. After only one month of talk show, he experienced his last broadcast for the time being last night. “His ratings weren’t exactly what you like.”
Renze Klamer has finished his debut at RTL 4. After four weeks of RENZE, it is now time for a holiday; very cleverly copied from Eva Jinek. Can Renze enjoy his free time contentedly? Or was it a bit disappointing? His ratings weren’t bad, but they weren’t really good either, say television connoisseurs.
‘Don’t you like it’
Jelle Maasbach, presenter of the TV podcast Content Wars, notices that Renze is not yet very comfortable with viewers and critics. “What strikes me is that he has to endure quite a lot. He’s really under attack, isn’t he? His ratings aren’t your thing. He wouldn’t do well, but I really find the show refreshing.”
It’s something different again, thinks Jelle, who recently received Renze in his podcast. “I think it’s a nice talk show host, especially if you compare that to the people of the NPO. There are often not such great duos and interviewers. I really think he creates a good atmosphere.”
‘Many older viewers’
Format developer Kirsten-Jan van Nieuwenhuijzen states that Renze does attract a lot of older viewers. “I think there are generally quite satisfied faces at RTL. He’s not brilliant, but not terribly bad either. Usually around 600 thousand. Perhaps a little less good in the target group: older viewers watch it.”
In terms of content, it is quite a nice program, he concludes in the same podcast. “I agree with you: it’s lighthearted and fun. It’s a bit like Humberto in the early years.”
Elderly fans
Viewership professor Tina Nijkamp recently pointed out that Renze sometimes attracts too many old viewers. And that’s not good, say Carlo Boszhard: “There is only one category of viewers that is really important, namely the messengers. The messengers are the viewers that are important to the advertisers, namely the target group 25-54 years.”
Renze recently confessed in his Instagram-stories even that he had received fan mail from an elderly viewer. He showed how this elderly viewer had taken the trouble to send him a compliment with pen and paper.
Don’t stare blindly
Renze indicated prior to the start of his talk show that RTL had not set him a target. “No actually not. The good thing is that RTL has said so. July is a month in which many people are away or sit on a terrace with nice weather, so there is absolutely no expectation that I will score the tiles of the roof.”
He then continued in the Weekend: “If 100,000 people are watching, there will of course be more meetings about what should be done differently than when 500,000 people are watching, but there is also a realization that regular TV viewing is declining, so there you should not stare blindly.”
