On December 3, around 5:15 p.m., residents of Schoolstraat were unsuspectingly smoking a cigarette on their balcony. Just as they walked back inside, a bomb was thrown onto their balcony. All belongings were destroyed. Less than 24 hours later it happened again: a window was also blown apart.

Since then, the question has arisen in the neighborhood: who was behind these explosions, and why? A resident of the Langwest, a few houses next to the house in question, says she doesn’t understand it. “The residents have no disagreements with anyone and they are known in the neighborhood as very open, helpful people. They are also not at all anxious. That is of course different now. Their lives are affected by this.”

According to the same woman, they were completely upset after the incidents. “It is of course terribly scary when something like this happens. Especially if it is not possible to find the perpetrator. Why would someone do this? I really don’t understand it.”

Camera images

The residents who were targeted by the explosions have a camera on their balcony, because ‘crazy things happen more often in the neighborhood’, such as fights or other disturbances. Images taken with that camera clearly show what happened on December 3, says another local resident who saw the recordings.

“A gentleman came to the apartment from Huizerstraat. He takes something from his pocket, lights it and throws it on the balcony. It was not a group of young people who were doing ‘rowliness’. It was really a targeted action by one man. ”

Research

The victims reported the incidents immediately after the incidents. The housing association also filed a report because of the severe damage to the balcony. No one has been arrested so far. The police say they are still investigating the case. There would be extra surveillance in the area and a new camera has been installed.

“We are busy with the investigation. We have seen the camera images of the residents, but the perpetrator cannot be clearly recognized. Forensic investigation is currently investigating. We are now waiting for that,” says a spokesperson.
