Hiker (31) survives seven days without food in Italian rock gorge | Abroad

In Italy, a hiker has survived seven days without food after falling into a rock gorge. The 31-year-old man was rescued on Saturday and is doing well. Italian media reported this on Sunday.

A week ago, the man had embarked on an excursion on his own near Monte Matajur, near the Italian-Slovenian border. However, he fell into a rock gorge and lost his backpack containing his cell phone, provisions and water.

The man suffered only minor injuries but was unable to crawl out of the gorge under his own power. He survived by drinking water that dripped into the rock canyon after a rain shower.

His mother informed the rescuers. They couldn’t locate him right away, but they did find him on Saturday. The man is emaciated and sunburnt.
