The Central Agency for Asylum Seekers (COA) reports that the number of asylum seekers in Ter Apels has risen to 2,120 people last night. This is the highest number since October 31, 2024.

The COA agreed with the municipality of Westerwolde that a maximum of 2000 people can stay in the Groningen registration center. It is now the tenth day in a row that this number is being exceeded. And it is the fourteenth time this month that this happens.

The COA must pay a penalty of 50,000 euros for each day that too many asylum seekers arrive. The body is now owing the municipality 700,000 euros.
