Club World Cup, Nations League, extended Champions League: Max Eberl from FC Bayern is now also getting involved in the debate about the excessive strain on the players.
More and more games, more and more competitions, more and more injuries? This triad threatens due to the high strain on the footballers. FC Bayern sports director Max Eberl has called for an adjustment to the calendar in the debate about this burden in professional football.
“With the competitions we have, we’re reaching our limits. I don’t know where we can fit anything else in. We have to take a broader view,” said Eberl when asked about the Club World Cup next summer in “Blickpunkt Sport” on BR television.
Club World Cup exacerbates the situation – Eberl’s explosive demand
The Munich team will face additional strain during the actual summer break next year with the tournament in the USA, which has been expanded to 32 teams. Before that, the national players could also be required in the final tournament of the Nations League – and the Champions League has already been extended. From Eberl’s point of view, however, “the big picture” must be considered. “Perhaps we need to take a step back and look at the entire schedule in order to find better solutions,” said Eberl: “And by that I also mean: vacation for the players.”
The suggestion seems quite interesting. Finally, the people of Munich have also discovered the Club World Cup as a new source of money. Various media reports that they will collect up to 50 million euros in signing-on money alone. In addition to Bayern, Borussia Dortmund will also be taking part in the Club World Cup from June 14th to July 15th in the United States.
