High demand for DFB women’s jerseys

Shortly before the first World Cup preliminary round match of the German national team in Australia, the jerseys of the soccer players are met with great interest, according to the DFB outfitter. In the Adidas online shop, the women’s home shirt was sold out as a standard model on Friday, it was only available in large sizes. In the DFB fan shop, too, fans could only buy a few of the shirts.

“We are happy about the high demand for the jerseys of the German women’s national team. Similar to previous tournaments, we were able to see an increase at the start of the preliminary round this year,” said Adidas spokesman Oliver Brüggen on Friday.

The jerseys of captain Alexandra Popp and the players Lina Magull and Lena Oberdorf are the most popular. Adidas did not comment on the questions since when the jerseys have been sold out and whether the stock will be increased. Users had complained on social networks that the jersey was not available online.

At the end of June, Adidas boss Bjørn Gulden reported that there had been “no boom” for the jerseys up to that point. The CEO of the sporting goods manufacturer did not want to give exact figures at the time.

Almost a year ago, the German Football Association presented the common home jersey for all national teams, with which the men had already played at the World Cup in Qatar in winter. The team of national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg starts the tournament against Morocco in Melbourne on Monday. (dpa)
