“We put on our diving suits and deleted the lower parts of our cross from the planned course,” reports Kevin Defieuw of the organizing committee. “We redesigned a loop, which makes our circuit slightly shorter, but we are now certain that the course will no longer be flooded. We could also have waited for further developments in the weather before making that conscious adjustment on Saturday, but have already acted on it.”
Last year the victory in Gullegem went to Wout van Aert. He won ahead of Eli Iserbyt and Michael Vanthourenhout. The European champion is also on the provisional list of participants for the seventh edition, just like Thibau Nys. Wout van Aert and Mathieu van der Poel are normally missing.
