With a decision of 30 June, the Council of State therefore today suspended the decision of Minister Crevits (CD&V) to not appoint Wieland De Meyer as mayor.
In the appeal, a lot of substantive cases were raised, but especially – and alone – the fact that neither the minister, nor the advisers such as the public prosecutor or the governor had spoken to the mayor, was already enough to suspend this decision.
Now that the decision is suspended, this appointment is dealt with the decision in the Council of State through a normal procedure, although that can take some time. In anticipation of a decision in the merits, Wieland De Meyer remains designated mayor of Heuvelland and can return the peace and stability.
