Het Drentse Landschap hopes to celebrate its anniversary year with new donors

While in the early days the emphasis was more on nature, Het Drentse Landschap has focused more on the preservation of heritage. “We sometimes bought a farm, but it was usually resold. In the 1990s the move towards heritage, and that portfolio has grown enormously,” says Van der Meer.

A change in this process was the taking over of the tasks of the Orvelte Foundation. Not just a ‘job’, with the management of the 64 monumental farms in the village.

In this way, The Drenthe Landscape did not outgrow its original size, but it was certainly redeveloped. Also financially. The foundation is often given an estate, with a piece of land to show for it. “Proud that people have so much confidence in us,” says Van der Meer with satisfaction.

There are also caveats. The Drenthe churches are a concern. “Are we able to keep them all? We already have in the past year no have to sell. The church board knocks on our door, but then we just have to say: ‘Unfortunately, we cannot help you.'” Van der Meer emphasizes: “In terms of energy and enthusiasm, there is certainly no limit.”
