Earlier today, it was reported that the price of soft drinks will soon become more expensive, because there will be changes to the soft drink tax on Wednesday, April 1.
The soft drink tax changes will hit sugary drinks in particular.
In the change, the tax on soft drinks will be staggered and increased, among other things. The tax on sugar-free drinks will rise to 20 cents per liter. The amount of tax on drinks containing sugar is 27, 35, 43, 51 or 59 cents per liter, depending on the sugar content of the drink.
Tuesday 31.3. Hesburger’s customers received a notification in the Hesburger app informing them of a change in the price of meals. According to the announcement, the default drink for meals will change.
– Starting tomorrow, our meals automatically include sugar-free Coca-Cola Zero soft drink. You can change the soft drink to sugary Coca-Cola for an additional fee.
In the past, a Hesburger meal has included any soft drink.
Later in the afternoon, Hesburger announced that the reason behind the change is a change in soft drink taxation, which increases the cost of sugary drinks more than sugar-free soft drinks.
– We want to keep the prices of our meals as competitive as possible. Due to the tax change, the cost of sugary soft drinks has increased. Thanks to the change in April, we will be able to keep the prices of meals with sugar-free soft drinks the same as before, Hesburger’s director of communications and international marketing Ieva Salmela says in the announcement.
The price of the meal also includes other sugar-free soft drinks, soda water or plain water. Customers still have the option of choosing a drink containing sugar, Coca-Cola, with their meal, but in this case a small surcharge will be added to the price of the meal.
For small drinks of 0.25 liters, the surcharge is ten cents. In the future, a fee of 15 cents will be added to 0.4 liter drinks. For the largest 0.5 liter drinks, the surcharge is 20 cents.
