The Austrian sporting goods supplier Hervis is bringing additional expertise in-house. On Friday, the company announced that Thorsten Schmitz would join the supervisory board.

Schmitz has “more than 25 years of management experience in international retail companies” and will bring “international market knowledge as well as comprehensive expertise in the areas of strategy, organization, commercial management and expansion to Hervis,” according to a statement.

The retail expert was managing director of Intersport Austria until August last year. Before that, he held various management positions at well-known companies such as Intersport Deutschland, Rudolf Wöhrl AG and Peek & Cloppenburg Düsseldorf.

Markus Hupach, who was appointed CEO a few weeks ago following the takeover of Hervis by the two German entrepreneurs Sven Voth and Udo Schloemer, welcomed the new addition. “With Thorsten Schmitz we are gaining a proven leader with a deep understanding of the dynamics of sports retail and complex corporate structures,” he explained in a statement. “His progressive thinking in particular, combined with his know-how about the continuous development of retail, fits perfectly with our orientation. His ideas and experience bring valuable added value and will strengthen our supervisory board both professionally and strategically. This will give us important impetus for the further development of the company.”
