Hertha now has to lay down all heavy burdens

Rescue instead of descent! When the final whistle sounded, I felt like a huge rucksack fell off, into which a heavy stone had previously been packed with each new defeat for months.

Early in the season you could feel that the club and the team weren’t right. Coach Pal Dardai’s move to Tayfun Korkut made matters worse. It went downhill.

Hertha stabilized under Felix Magath. But then: only 1:1 in Bielefeld, although there was a huge chance to win 2:0. A defeat against Mainz and at the end of the league, Hertha lost late in Dortmund, while Stuttgart saved themselves in injury time in 15th place.

You had the feeling: Hertha can’t do it. And the football god doesn’t want it either.

This feeling was even stronger after the 0:1 in the first leg against HSV. Only in the very last game did the Berliners redeem themselves and all the fans. If only they had played like this during the season!

Ex-President Werner Gegenbauer should also be relieved. The burden of office is off his shoulders. His tenure ends with relegation. Now Hertha’s restart should follow. Hope he succeeds.
