Hertha is sticking with coach Tayfun Korkut

Berlin (dpa) – The Bundesliga club Hertha BSC, threatened with relegation, is holding on to head coach Tayfun Korkut even after eight league games without a win.

“I have complete confidence in him. And that’s exactly the same in the team,” said managing director Fredi Bobic. 47-year-old Korkut led team training. The tablecloth between the team and the coach was not cut, the team could still reach Korkut, said Bobic. Before the game on Saturday at Borussia Mönchengladbach (6.30 p.m. / Sky), he also emphasized: “We have to score on Saturday.”

The capital club has not yet won a game this year and is on the relegation rank – just one point ahead of 17th place in the table. Last Saturday, the Berliners suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat against Eintracht Frankfurt in their home Olympic Stadium. In particular, the way the defeat against his ex-club did not work, said Bobic. Above all, he made the experienced players at Hertha responsible.

A premature separation was announced on Monday evening: sports director Arne Friedrich resigned from his position with immediate effect, he was actually supposed to stay in Berlin until the summer. The former captain of the Berliners apparently saw his functions cut and made this very clear for the standards of a press release: “For various reasons, however, I have had the feeling over the past few months that my influence on important sporting decisions is no longer sufficient is given in order to do justice to my duties as sporting director.”

Bobic said: “It may have been a bit difficult for him to have the influence now, also in the perception of the players.” Differences about the decision on Korkut’s future were not decisive for Friedrich’s departure.
