The second division duel in the first round of the DFB Cup between Prussia Münster and Hertha BSC remained exciting until the end. In the end, the penalty had to decide.
The dream of Hertha BSC from the DFB Cup final in Berlin’s Olympic Stadium, with luck, survived the first round. In the only second division duel of the first cup round, the Berliners won 5: 3 in the penalty shootout in front of 10,635 spectators at Prussia Münster. After 120 minutes it was 0-0.
Sebastian Grönning converted the decisive penalty for Berliners. Fabian Reese, Leon Jensen, Michael Cuisance and Maurice Krattenmacher had previously housed their penalty in the goal. For Münster, Oliver Batista Meier, Simon Scherder and Lars Lokotsch converted. Charalambos Makridis only hit the crossbar.
After just one point from the first two second division games of the new season, the Berliners initially saved their season start. Hertha moves into the second round for the third time. The Münsterers, on the other hand, were eliminated in the first round for the third time. Münster also started the second division with just one point from two games.
After eleven minutes, goalkeeper Tjark Ernst saved the Hertha from the early deficit when he brilliantly parried a shot of the Münster Schulz, which appeared alone in front of him. In the 31st minute, Ernst was lucky when he misjudged Bolay on a cross and the ball dripped onto the Tornetz.
In the case of a supposed opening goal of the increasingly powerful Münsteran, the shooter Etienne Amenyido was offside in the 58th minute. In the 89th minute, Dawid Kownacki missed the huge chance of the Berlin “Lucky Punch”. Then it went into the extension in which the Berliners got better. But goals no longer scored on both sides. The Hertha then had the better nerves in the penalty shootout.
