Hertha BSC: Former coach Sandro Schwarz takes over New York Red Bulls

Forsberg’s future club

As expected, Sandro Schwarz will succeed coach Troy Lesesne at the New York Red Bulls. The MLS club confirmed the signing of the 45-year-old German on Thursday. For Schwarz, it is the second stop abroad after two seasons at Dinamo Moscow from October 2020 to June 2022. In the Bundesliga he worked at Hertha BSC, where he had to leave last April, and at 1. FSV Mainz 05.

As in the round of 16 of the US Open Cup, the Red Bulls lost to FC Cincinnati on penalties in the first round of the MLS playoffs. The club is therefore planning to upgrade the squad for the 2024 season. The responsible sporting officer, Jochen Schneider, former board member of Schalke 04, reportedly agrees with Emil Forsberg (32) from RB Leipzig.

“We are very pleased to welcome Sandro to the club,” said Schneider. “Sandro is a great leader who fits our culture and his experience as a head coach in Europe fits what we are trying to achieve. We look forward to bringing him here and starting to work towards success in 2024.” Schwarz added: “I’m looking forward to joining the club and getting started soon. I am very motivated to achieve many great things with this club and look forward to starting work next season.”
