Hertha BSC: Decision on how to proceed with Marius Gersbeck after notification

“keeps us all busy”

Hertha President Kay Bernstein sees no “right way” to deal with the case of suspended goalkeeper Marius Gersbeck. There will be “no winner in this whole incident,” Bernstein said in a “Sky” interview. The Salzburg police confirmed to the German Press Agency on Saturday that a complaint against the 28-year-old Gersbeck for serious bodily harm would be filed with the public prosecutor’s office at the beginning of the coming week.

The incident happened in July during the second division’s training camp in Zell am See. Gersbeck is said to have injured a man in a late-night argument. The goalkeeper had not given any information about the incident during a first hearing in Austria.

“That concerns everyone because we also want to meet the responsibility of making objective and reasonable decisions,” said Bernstein. “That concerns us, because of course we can see that he is a Hertha player. He arrived from Karlsruhe and made his dream come true. He has exceeded expectations in terms of dressing room, training and sporting performance.”

The association is waiting for the investigations in Salzburg. “Then there will be a decision and then we will see,” said Bernstein. Depending on whether Gersbeck is allowed to return to the squad, the further sporting planning of the Berliners is also on the transfer market. Tjark Ernst (20) is currently number one at Hertha, with the only backup available to the Berliners being Robert Kwasigroch (19) and Tim Goller (18).
