With just seven points, Schalke is in 16th place, while Hertha (12) climbs into the top half of the table. Smail Prevljak (41st) and Fabian Reese (51st) sealed Schalke’s defeat. The goal by Yusuf Kabadayi (80th) came too late, and Kenan Karaman (85th) was shown a yellow-red card for repeated foul play. Jonjoe Kenny had hit the post for Hertha just before.

Schalke starts bravely, but loses control

Schalke, sent into the game by interim coach Matthias Kreutzer with six changes to the starting eleven, lost control of the game after a courageous start. The Berliners took over what was happening, but their actions were mostly too imprecise.

Schalke still had the first big chance of the first half against a well-organized Herthan team. Dominick Drexler missed in the penalty area (26′). On the other hand, Berlin did not take advantage of a mistake by Schalke’s defense (34th). Shortly before the break Prevljak did better.

Fabian Reese increases for Hertha

There was initially no sign of Schalke’s rebellion after the break – on the contrary. Reese duped the hosts with a strong solo and increased. Schalke got better after that and were close to scoring with good opportunities from Bryan Lasme (62′), Derry Murkin (74′) and Simon Terrode’s crossbar hit (79′). Kabadayi broke the spell.

Hertha missed the decision when Derry Scherhant hit the post (73′).
