Harsewinkel (dpa) – Niklas Stark will not extend his expiring contract with Bundesliga soccer club Hertha BSC.

“It boils down to the fact that he will change,” said sports director Fredi Bobic at a press conference in the short training camp in Harsewinkel, “unfortunately economic issues have become much more important. That’s why it’s difficult to make an adequate offer.” Stark joined the Berliners from 1. FC Nürnberg in the summer of 2015 and is one of the better earners in the team.

According to Bobic, there have been “many talks” in the past few weeks, but no agreement has been reached. “He has his qualities, he feels it for himself,” said Bobic, who is counting on the two-time international to support Hertha in the last seven games in the fight to stay up: “He’ll give it his all until the end.”
