Second division football team Hertha BSC has been forced to undergo a complete change after relegation. Shortly before the end of the transfer period, two more players reportedly wanted to leave the club. But the Berlin bosses blocked it, as it now turns out.
According to information from “Bild”, top talent Derry Scherhant and defense veteran Marc Oliver Kempf had offers shortly before the end of the transfer period. The duo considered a change, and there were even heated discussions.
According to the report, the 20-year-old Scherhant could have moved to Blackburn Rovers in the English second division. The club has submitted an offer for a loan deal to Berlin.
Hertha talent wants more match practice
The youngster therefore insisted that those responsible at Hertha BSC agree to the transfer. However, since the Berlin squad planners stuck to their no, according to “Bild” there was “a real crackle” between the players and the club management.
The attacker only extended his contract with Hertha BSC until 2027 last July. So far this season, the Berlin native has only appeared as a substitute in two games – not enough for the centre-forward’s needs. After the signings of Haris Tabakovic and Smail Prevljak, Derry Scherhant has to assert himself against new competition; a loan seemed to be a good opportunity for the striker to get some match practice.
Dárdai on Kempf: “It didn’t go as it should”
According to the report, two well-known clubs have shown interest in defense chief Marc Oliver Kempf. Udinese Calcio from Serie A and Leicester City from the Premier League are said to have come knocking shortly before the end of the substitution period – too late from Hertha’s point of view, who would not have had a replacement.
The cancellation was a shock for Kempf, as Hertha coach Pál Dárdai also told “Bild”.
The defender had been substituted at his own request in the turbulent 4:6 against 1. FC Magdeburg. The Hungarian said: “It didn’t go as it should. The last few days were probably a bit much for him.”
