Tennis and Padel Meerzicht can be found next to the Voorweg, at Zalkerbos 320, next to the Randstad stop Voorweg low/high. The sports center has been around for more than 45 years and now offers space for a lot of padel and tennis enthusiasts. “We have the most indoor padel courts in Zoetermeer, five to be exact. The national youth selection also trains with us twice a week”, explains owner Ruud van Hoogdalem.

What is padel?
Small chance, but for those who have never heard of padel, here’s a short explanation. Padel is a combination of squash and tennis. In contrast to tennis, the courts are short (20 by 10 meters) and the speed of the ball is much lower. The courses are surrounded by glass walls and fencing. The ball may be played through these walls. As a rule, you always play a game of padel with four people. The score is the same as in tennis.
For everyone
Ruud certainly sees that padel has taken off in popularity. “That’s really nice of course. For example, we see that many people who no longer have the time to practice a sport such as football, switch to padel. It is a very easy sport to pick up, especially if you already practice a ball sport or have an affinity with it.” But ‘newbies’ can also easily pick up this sport. “Thanks to the short distance from the fields, the relatively slow speed with which the ball is played and the fact that you serve underhand, everyone can quickly pick up this sport. That is what makes it such a social and fun ball sport.”

Due to the rise of the sport, it was a logical choice for Ruud to invest in the five indoor tennis and Padel Meerzicht courts. “We see that more and more people are interested in this sport. Both our own club members, who already play tennis with us, and people from outside. With five indoor courts, we ensure that everyone can reserve a court.”

Meet & Play
Because Tennis en Padel Meerzicht always likes to think along with all players, Meet & Play Padel was created. “Every 2ᵉ Thursday and every 2ᵉ Sunday of the month, we organize Meet & Play. It is useful to join our WhatsApp group in advance in which we easily create a layout to play with people of your level. The Meet & Play is suitable for both beginners and advanced players.”
King of the court
You are also welcome several times a month at the ‘King of the court’ padel event. Ruud: “It takes an hour and a half to get the place on track 1. Changes are made every quarter of an hour. If you are in the lead at that moment, you move up a lane. If you lose a match, you go down a job. But don’t worry: there are a total of 6 games of 15 minutes each. You change partners every 15 minutes. The two teams that end up on lane 1 at the end will play a final for the main prize.”
