Herbert nominates Christen and DiLeo

Karim Jallow from the basketball Bundesliga club ratiopharm Ulm is unavailable for the two World Cup qualifiers against Israel due to calf problems.

National coach Gordon Herbert nominated Robin Christen and Max DiLeo (both Hamburg Towers) for the start of the preparatory course in Frankfurt.

The national team will first play against the league leaders in Tel Aviv on Friday (1.30 p.m.), then three days later it will be down to business in Heidelberg (7.30 p.m./both MagentaSport). “We came together here to win games. We’re here to qualify for next year’s World Cup. That’s our first goal,” said Herbert on Sunday evening.

Germany is third in its World Cup qualifying group D after two of six match days. The Herbert team had lost the opening game against Estonia (66:69) before achieving a narrow victory in Poland (72:69).

After the first group phase, three nations per season remain in the race for a ticket for the 2023 World Cup. They form a new group with three teams from group C with European champions Slovenia, then at least third place must be achieved.
