Henrik Kristoffersen took over the red jersey after the slalom on Saturday. Despite his good performances, he also talked about the pressure afterwards.
In addition to the historic performance of his former teammate Lucas Pinheiro Braathen (you can read more about the “Superman” run here), the Norwegian Henrik Kristoffersen also delivered a very good performance. The ski racer came third in the slalom in Adelboden on Saturday. Afterwards he also spoke about the pressure that is on him – and a possible end to his career.
Kristoffersen took over the red jersey from Swiss Loïc Meillard in the slalom on Saturday. This is given to the leader of the World Cup in this discipline. He then honestly told the Norwegian public broadcaster “NRK”: “I haven’t become any less nervous over the years.”
The 30-year-old celebrated his World Cup debut in 2012. Since then he has already celebrated a number of successes. Kristoffersen came third in the Olympic slalom at the 2014 Sochi Games. Four years later, he won the Olympic silver medal in the giant slalom in Pyeongchang. He also became world champion in giant slalom in 2019 and world champion in slalom in 2013.
However, the ski racer said: “It’s extremely tiring to race, to be nervous, to pull yourself together and to perform all the time. Training is actually the easiest thing in that regard.”
The Norwegian is therefore already thinking about his future and how long he wants to subject himself to this pressure to perform. “It depends a bit on how things go,” said Kristoffersen, who added: “Definitely it will be this season and two more, I think. Then we’ll see what happens after that. A top athlete on one Being at a certain level also takes its toll.”
In other words: The Norwegian definitely wants to take part in the Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo next year. Kristoffersen no longer lives in Norway, but in Salzburg and also trains there.
