Henny Huisman laughs up his sleeve: Giovanca flops with ‘TV copy’

It is inevitable that Henny Huisman will laugh up his sleeve now that the ‘TV copy’ of his Korenslag program has flopped hard under the direction of Giovanca Ostiana. “The grapes are sour.”

After his inglorious departure from RTL 4, Henny Huisman presented the Korenslag program for the EO for a few years. While the presenter has been reluctantly sitting on the couch for quite some time now, the broadcaster has now launched a kind of copy of this show with Giovanca Ostiana at the helm, namely ‘Zing!’.

TV theft

Three months ago, Henny grumbled that this is just format theft. “Boyfriend, ITV produces Zing for the EO. That is one hundred percent your grain. I would dive into it”, he wrote to Korenslag creator Bert van der Veer.

Bert decided not to take any action: “How hopeless and depressing is it to fight against possible plagiarism? There is a constant bit of nicking. You just don’t expect it from the EO. See Leviticus 19:11: ‘You must not steal, lie, or deceive one another.’”

Grape sour

The two gentlemen will undoubtedly laugh up their sleeve now that the ratings of Zing! sitting down in the elevator. After last week’s 861 thousand viewers (25 percent market share), NPO 1 did not get further than 618 thousand viewers (18 percent) with this show last night, which is a very significant drop.

Viewing figure connoisseur Tina Nijkamp writes: “For Giovanca and Anne-Mar Zwart, the grapes are sour. Because after last week’s curiosity, exactly what you could see coming happened: the viewing figures have fallen sharply. Only 618 thousand viewers.”

What is it about?

What is this about? Tina knows. She lacks “one-to-one emotion” in this format. “Difficult to identify with as a viewer. A lot of people in a choir. The program also lacks emotion so far. It’s a bit flat, very edited, and a lot of ‘magazine language’.”

There is also a lack of tension, she says. “Each choir is ‘already thrilled to participate’,” she writes. “There is too little at stake.”
