Henny Huisman (74) has been dreaming of a successful return to television for years. While André van Duin (78) has succeeded, the Soundmixshow star continues to flounder in obscurity. “Pure luck.”

It is common knowledge that Henny Huisman really wants it, so the fact that this TV comeback never happens makes one thing very clear: they think in Hilversum that he does not have enough talent. Or at least not the talent that fits the current spirit of the times. And that is sad, because peer André van Duin is achieving incredible success.

Lucky

How is it possible, according to Henny, that he is not so successful, but André is? “That is true. I was at DeLaMar’s anniversary last week and André said that there is also a luck factor involved,” he says in Weekend.

So it’s actually just luck, he concludes. “Martine Bijl died and then André Heel Holland Bakt took over from her. That came his way, he was not consciously involved in it. And then sailing a boat with Janny van der Heijden was added.”

Get a chance

According to Henny, it is not the case that his TV colleague is more knowledgeable than him. “André is of course a great talent, but again, there is a bit of luck involved. You have to get the chance, of course.”

Does Henny never try to get the attention of André’s boss Jan Slagter? “Director Bob Rooyens presented a format to me years ago, with people fishing in boats. I would pass by in my boat and fish for stories. Jan really liked the stories, but did not want the format.”

Good moment

André is now making a program in a boat for Jan. “André does a fantastic job in Thinking about Holland, he is my dearest colleague. But he had just caught the right moment and I didn’t at the time.”

“It’s not jealousy, I don’t have that at all. I am asked for a lot of things, from programs like Wie is de Mol? to Jouw Vrouw, mijn Vrouw and Expeditie Robinson, but I don’t do that. That doesn’t suit me.”
