People who suspect that the determination of their benefits is incorrect can report to a special UWV team. They then receive help in a personal conversation and if there is errors, their benefits can be adjusted. The UWV will also check with targeted actions for previously made errors as soon as something changes in the benefit. This prevents errors that have no consequences yet. In addition, measures are being taken to ensure that fewer mistakes are made in the future. Minister Eddy van Hijum of Social Affairs and Employment writes this, also on behalf of State Secretary Jurgen Nobel of Participation and Integration, in response to some quality investigations from UWV.
This concerns errors in Wajong benefits for young disabled people or when determining the so-called Maatmanloon on the basis of which the disability benefit is determined. Both ministers have recently had conversations with WIA and Wajong beneficiaries. In the personal stories, the problem emerged with people dealing with. The quality investigations show that UWV makes too many mistakes at the Maatmanloon, the letter says. In addition to the current recovery action of the disability benefits (WIA), UWV will not manually detect other errors in these regulations. Such a new, broad recovery campaign would lead to the UWV no longer giving its regular work. The organization would get stuck as a result. Both ministers do not consider this desirable. In addition, not all errors immediately have adverse consequences for people.
Minister Eddy van Hijum: “Too many mistakes are made in these benefits. For people who are dealing with this, this leads to uncertainty and many questions. In some cases, people do not get what they are entitled to. That is not possible and that should really be better. The setting up a wide new recovery action is also at the expense of people who are now getting benefits. We have opted for a targeted way to the Fedsbewenden to the Farse way to the Farts. Tackle the quality and simplify the system so that the schemes are more feasible, fewer mistakes and people know where they stand. ”
Wia
At the WIA, UWV has done a sample of 375 files for October and November 2024. It showed that 86% was correct and 9% incorrect. Although these percentages give a reasonable picture, the results are not yet reliable enough because there is still insufficient experience with this form of quality controls. UWV is working hard to improve this.
Maatmanloon in the WIA
In another study, the UWV specifically looked at errors in the sizes. This is a calculation of the wage that someone would have earned if he or she would not have become sick. The Maatman wage of 298 files has been checked in a sample. This was determined correctly in 77.2% of the cases. Not in 11.8% of the cases, but had no direct financial consequences for those involved.
In 1.6% of the files from the sample, a mistake was made with direct financial consequences for people. In total this involved five of the 298 files. Of these five people, no benefit was granted for one. At Vier, a benefit was wrongly granted. UWV will take additional measures in the short term to improve the quality of the determination of the Maatmanloon. UWV also takes measures to prevent errors that do not yet have financial consequences are recovered before they do have financial consequences.
Wajong
In January 2025, the first provisional results about the quality of the Wajong assessment were shared with the House of Representatives. UWV has carried out a further check on these samples. The results give a similar picture with January. UWV has checked 304 files in a sample over 2024. This shows that in 88% of the cases the decision was correct. An error was made in 9% of the cases. However, these results, however, are insufficiently reliable, just like with the WIA.
Current recovery action
In the current recovery campaign, UWV views 43,000 WIA benefits from the period January 2020 to December 2024. This includes calculations in the daily wage. The use of UWV is to start checking benefits this spring. In addition, UWV has drawn up an approach to improvement and introduced a new quality management system for the disability benefits. Both must lead to the early signaling of possible errors to prevent and repair them.
