Help farmer Hidde sends cows into Castricum meadow: ‘Get up early and help with milking’

A special day for assistant farmer Hidde: today he has the honor to send the cows into the meadow at the De Kei farm camp in Castricum. “Actually, I think this is the best moment,” says cattle farmer Arnold Res, who is eager to send his ladies into the country.

Fortunately, Arnold regularly gets help from camping guests. Today helps Hidde, who is at the campsite with his mother, brother and sister. Relief farmer Hidde traveled from his hometown Staphorst to Castricum early this morning to give Arnold’s cows their freedom.

“I help him with milking and I always get up early,” says Hidde tough. According to Hidde’s mother, ‘the whole holiday is geared to today’s special ceremony. Hidde’s mother herself would like to go on holiday to France again, but the farmer in the making does not like that: “I will stay here.”

Nice outside

Farmer Arnold is happy that his ladies are back in the meadow, also because it saves him a lot of work. “They can collect their feed themselves and they bring their manure away themselves. Then I have to do a lot less.” In the coming months they will be brought in in the evenings, in the warmest months of the year they can graze around the clock in the meadow.
