In the 2025 Formula 1 season, Liam Lawson can try out alongside Max Verstappen at Red Bull Racing. “He only has relatively little Grand Prix experience,” the 81-year-old continued about the eleven-time Grand Prix participant, but the “mental strength” is there to drive alongside Verstappen. Lawson himself, who has been part of the Red Bull team since the beginning of 2019, has now revealed where the aforementioned mental strength comes from.
“This prepares you for Formula 1”
“There was always a lot of pressure, right from the start when I was signed at the age of 16,” Lawson told the New Zealand portal “stuff.co.nz” and referred to the tough school of the motorsport consultant.
“Helmut called every other week and told me that I had to do my job to stay there,” the New Zealander gave an insight and added: “Of course that creates a lot of pressure.”
But the whole thing also had something good: “It also prepares you well for Formula 1.”
Lawson wants to “remain realistic” in his new job alongside Verstappen, and in this respect I also know that I will be competing on some tracks that I have never been on before,” emphasized the Red Bull Racing newcomer.
“This will be my first full season and I don’t expect that I will be fighting for victories right from the start. But of course I want to deliver a good performance and do the job that the team needs from me,” Lawson continued.
