Hélène Hendriks is causing a problem for Today Inside now that she has claimed the program title De Oranjezomer. “We are no longer allowed to be called that during the European Championship,” says Wilfred Genee.
It came very unexpectedly to everyone at SBS 6: the enormous success of Hélène Hendriks as a talk show host. She has hijacked the program name De Oranjezomer, which was previously used for the European Championship or World Cup edition of Today Inside, and that poses a problem for colleague Wilfred Genee now that the 2024 European Football Championship is approaching.
VI Orange
Wilfred tells The Telegraph that using that name is no longer an option. “So we can no longer be called Oranjezomer during the European Championship. We are now looking for a name. Today Inside Oranje or Today Inside European Championship. If you have a nice one…”
The abbreviated VI Oranje is of course also an option, but since Hélène will also return in the summer with De Oranjezomer, this may be confusing. Perhaps SBS 6 will simply choose to keep the name Today Inside, or indeed add the addition ‘EK’ after it.
Lots of Hélène
What about Hélène and her talk show? When will it come back? “We will now continue until mid-May, then I think we will start again on June 14 until July 14 and then Hélène will go again for a while, but then I think the competition will start again on August 8 or 9 or so,” he says at the VI site.
It bothers Wilfred that the competition starts so soon after the European Championship; he himself is still on holiday. “Why so early? What kind of nonsense is this? That’s three weeks after the European Championship!”
For months
According to television guide Televizier, Hélène’s talk show will return from May 20 to June 13 and from July 15 to August 16 – the European Football Championship takes place in between.
In other words: Hélène will be deployed by SBS 6 for months this year and that is a sign that she is increasingly seen as equal to the men of VI. She will probably be seen again with her program at the end of the year, around December.
