Mattel turns Helene Fischer into a Barbie and includes her in the “Barbie Dream Team” – eight global role models who will be honored on International Women’s Day.
Helene Fischer will receive her own Barbie doll on the occasion of International Women’s Day on March 8th. The toy manufacturer Mattel is thus adding the singer to an international list of role models.
The pop singer is part of the “Barbie Dream Team,” which features eight women from different countries and industries. Mattel would like to recognize women who have achieved public attention in their respective fields.
“We can be anything”
The 41-year-old singer explained on Instagram that she feels it is a special recognition to be part of this project and to be a role model for young girls. She sends an encouraging message: “To all the girls who are looking for their own stage in life: Go ahead. Be loud if you want to be loud – and strong, even if you are quiet. We women can be visible. We can be loud. We can be anything.” The doll has long blonde hair, a blue stage costume and a microphone as an accessory.
International role models in the “Barbie Dream Team”
In addition to Helene Fischer, Mattel selected other women from different areas. The company explains on its website: “Since 1959, more than 100 women have been recognized across industries. Women who have pushed boundaries, expanded possibilities and inspired generations. Now Barbie continues this chapter with a dream team of global pioneers.”
The group includes, among others, the US tennis player Serena Williams, the British footballer Chloe Kelly and the US astronaut Kellie Gerardi. Mattel describes them as global pioneers whose careers should serve as a guide for girls and young women. It is not yet known whether the “Barbie Dream Team” dolls will be regularly available for purchase.
Mattel has been using International Women’s Day as an opportunity for special editions for several years. In the past, the company has honored various women from culture, science and sport with their own Barbie figures.
German stars with their own Barbie doll
Even before Helene Fischer, Mattel honored well-known German women with their own dolls. Enissa Amani received a Barbie in 2024: The company honored the comedian and activist as one of several role models as part of the brand’s 65th birthday and International Women’s Day. Not as a purchase product, but as a unique piece to honor.
Claudia Schiffer also got her own Barbie. The doll was released in November 2023 at a price of 159.99 euros. The design shows the model in a well-known Versace look from the 1990s.
Heidi Klum received her own doll in 2009 as part of Barbie’s 50th birthday. Mattel released this edition as a limited collector’s version. The doll wears a pink and gold glittering dress that combines Klum’s style and the typical Barbie design. The Heidi doll can be found online for around 250 euros.
In 2009, Mattel made a one-off Barbie doll as a tribute to then-Chancellor Angela Merkel. This figure was unique and was presented as a token of recognition. It remains to be seen whether the Helene Fischer Barbie will be available for purchase.
