Heleen van Royen thinks that Bridget Maasland is a woman who comes across as quite haughty. “Not that nasty, but a haughty, confident appearance,” says the 60-year-old writer.
It will have escaped most people’s notice, but Bridget Maasland has also recently acquired one chat podcast. She makes it under the banner of RTL Boulevard and this time she is chatting with Heleen van Royen. At one point, Bridget’s affair with the then rather loose folk singer André Hazes Jr. is also briefly discussed.
Bridget in love
Bridget is disappointed that the media attention also affected her child. “Unfortunately, I was not able to protect my child from everything. In retrospect, I really could have handled some things differently, while he never complained about it and says it didn’t bother him.”
She continues: “But my mother’s heart sometimes goes: ooh, did I do that right and couldn’t I have done it better this way? For example, the whole Hazes story and how it was played out. Look, I couldn’t have handled it any other way, because I just fell in love with someone.”
Haughty
Heleen then lets us know what she thinks about that. “I think that is one of your most beautiful things, because I saw you really vulnerable at the time. I have known you for quite a long time and of course I have been following you for a long time and you are known as a kind of… You have something beautifully haughty. Yes, you do. You have a kind of haughtiness.”
She continues: “Not that nasty thing, but a haughty, self-confident appearance that makes you think: well, she will never be deterred. And when you were so in love and I saw you go on stage with that beer… Well, you stole my heart.”
So in love
Why did Bridget steal her heart? “Because I thought: you are now doing something you would never do, but you did it because you were so in love. Yes, I find that very moving. I find that very beautiful.”
Bridget had to announce an item in RTL Boulevard last week about André’s latest love affair, and that that relationship is now finally Insta-official. She doesn’t pull a muscle, but it is no coincidence that those items are almost never discussed in the studio when Bridget is at the desk…
