Heitinga leaves Ajax permanently and midfielder Tahirovic is the latest addition

It is over and out between Ajax and John Heitinga. The plagued trainer was previously sidelined by the Amsterdam club and now the contract has been dissolved. As of July 1, John Heitinga will be Ajax player off.

With the intention of helping his club, John Heitinga took over the role of the fired head coach Alfred Schreuder at the beginning of this calendar year. That was not a great success. The team from Amsterdam quickly flew out of Europe, lost the cup final to PSV and finished third in the league.

“Very grateful”

For a long time, Heitinga was on pole position to lead Ajax as head coach in the new season as well. Partly due to the continued mediocre performance, technical director Sven Mislintat chose someone else. Last Wednesday, the Amsterdam club presented Maurice Steijn as the new person with final responsibility for the main force. In a statement, Ajax said: “The club management is very grateful to John Heitinga for his commitment to the club and hopes that by dissolving the employment contract the trainer can continue his career elsewhere and wishes him every success.”

Benjamin Tahirovic

Where Ajax says goodbye to one, a new player welcomes. This is the Bosnian talent Benjamin Tahirovic from AS Roma. “Benjamin is a strong and ball-resistant midfielder”, Mislintat analyzes the midfielder on the site of the Amsterdam club. “He’s a great talent with a great mentality.” The Bosnian international played eleven matches for the Roman club in the series A last season and is coming to Amsterdam one of these days for a medical examination.

Tahirovic still had a contract with AS Roma until the summer of 2026. The amount of the transfer fee is currently unknown.
