Heiloo receives 175 asylum seekers in North Holland

An emergency solution that relieves the overloaded registration center in Ter Apel for a longer period of time has been found. The Municipality of Heiloo is prepared to receive all 175 asylum seekers – in addition to the 50 who are already being received – in one go.

Last Friday, the chairmen of the 25 Security Regions approved the proposal to relieve the overcrowded application center in Ter Apel. It was urgent, however, since July 1st, that is, tomorrow, was mentioned as the deadline.

The municipality of Heiloo now comes to the rescue and is converting the Het Vennewater sports hall into a temporary reception location, good for 175 asylum seekers. And this solves the urgent appeal from the cabinet in Noord-Holland Noord in one fell swoop.

For Noord-Holland Noord this concerns 175 asylum seekers, because 50 asylum seekers are already being received in a sports hall in ‘T Zand (municipality of Schagen). “The municipality of Schagen has extended that reception. We count that number in the 225”, spokesperson Annerieke Dekker explained out before to NH News.

Meeting for local residents

The Security Region is therefore pleased that the municipality of Heiloo is prepared to offer this space as emergency shelter. “I am doing this to help COA and the central government out of an impasse,” says Mayor Ten Bruggencate, who believes it is important that these people are well taken care of and therefore offers this location. “Too many people are living in terrible conditions in Ter Apel. I am happy to feel that both the council and the council want to respond to this cry for help.”

Local residents have been informed by letter. An information meeting has been organized for them, which will take place on Saturday 2 July at 10 am.
