Heikki Kovalainen will get his hands on a Toyota Yaris Rally 2 car next year.

According to information from Iltalehti, Kovalainen, 41, who has won the Japanese rally championship for the second time in a row, drives a brand-new Toyota rally car as one of the first drivers in the world.

Toyota’s long-developed Rally2 car is scheduled to arrive on the market at the beginning of next year. The first cars to be produced are to be launched in Toyota’s home country of Japan.

According to IL’s information, Kovalainen is one of the drivers to whom Toyota is ready to use the equipment.

The F1 race winner has won the Japanese Rally Championship twice. The Skoda Fabia driven by an ex-formula driver has traveled particularly hard on asphalt roads. If Kovalainen continued his winning streak with the Rally 2 Yaris, it would be the best possible PR for the Japanese team.

Over the weekend, Kovalainen secured the Japanese championship by finishing third in the Hokkaido rally. The visiting star will be ahead Jari-Matti Latvala and Norihiko Katsuta. Both drove the under development Rally 2 Yar.

Toyota is a familiar employer to Kovalainen. He drove the Lexus brand belonging to the same group for years in the Japanese Super GT series.

The rally team driving Kovalai in Japan published a suggestive message on their Facebook page. The team asks its followers which equipment they would like to see Kovalainen racing with next year.
