“Commitment failed to materialize”
The squad planning at Bundesliga promoted 1. FC Heidenheim is taking shape: With right-back Omar Traoré from VfL Osnabrück, the club booked their third new signing for the coming season on Wednesday. This was announced by Lower Saxony, where the native of Osnabrück is now the tenth departure of the second division promoted team.
The 25-year-old VfL homegrown player played 36 of 38 games in the 3rd division last season and contributed nine goals. Traoré’s contract would have expired on June 30th.
“We’ve been in contact with Omar since the end of last year, but unfortunately we couldn’t convince him to stay at VfL. That’s why we planned on two tracks after the end of the season, but kept the door open for Omar until the end. His commitment didn’t materialize, he decided to change. We wish him all the best for his future,” explained VfL sporting director Amir Shapourzadeh.
“Omar really impressed us at Osnabrück last season. He was one of the top right-backs in the 3rd division and managed to get promoted to the 2nd division with VfL. At 25, he is still capable of development and we hope that he will take the next step in the Bundesliga with us,” said Robert Strauss, FCH Sports Division Manager, a short time later in the Heidenheim team’s official statement.
