1. FC Heidenheim has extended midfielder Jan Schöppner’s contract, which expires in the summer, by three years until 2028. The 25-year-old moved from SC Verl to Brenz on a free transfer in 2020, and since then the right-footed player has made 133 appearances, seven goals and five assists. In the current season, only Patrick Mainka, Kevin Müller and Omar Traoré have played more minutes at FCH than Schöppner (1,534).
“Schöppi’s development over the past five years with us is simply outstanding. You shouldn’t forget: When he was in the second division, he came to us as a young regional league player from Verl and made the leap to becoming a top performer who played a significant role in our promotion to the Bundesliga,” explained board boss Holger Sanwald and added: “In the Schöppi has improved again in the Bundesliga and is a very important part of our squad. With his ambition and attitude – whether on or off the pitch – he fits our FCH perfectly. We are therefore happy that Schöppi has extended his contract and thus sent an important signal in the fight to stay in the league.”
