Heavy suspension for ‘spitting’ Gaetano Oristanio, FC Volendam appeals

Gaetano Oristanio has a long suspension after his red card against AZ. The FC Volendam midfielder has to play five matches, one of which is conditional. Volendam will appeal against that proposal, the case will be heard later this week.

Oristanio received a red card after 76 minutes in the derby against AZ on Saturday evening after a foul on Jordy Clasie. He then spat at the referee, increasing his suspension. If the current suspension would remain in place, Oristanio would miss the matches against FC Twente, Vitesse, NEC and FC Emmen. The Italian would then only be able to play against Feyenoord again.

Trainer Wim Jonk thought that his midfielder came out ‘unhappy’. “Of course he hits Jordy Clasie’s calf full. Then you get a red card. That is unfortunately, because his intention is never to injure anyone.” Jonk had received nothing from the spitting.
