The South Island of New Zealand was startled by a major earthquake on Tuesday afternoon (local time). According to the national seismological service Geonet, it was a quake with a force of 6.7 on the Richter scale. The epicenter was southwest of Invercargill, the southernmost city in the country. There is no tsunamige danger, reports the National Agency for Nema emergency situations.
