The municipality of Assen wants to set up a heat network and heat company. With that it wants to meet the inhabitants to get rid of natural gas.

A heat network consists of pipes under the ground through which hot water flows. This warm water heats houses and supplies hot water for, for example, the shower. This means that a gas boiler is no longer necessary.

As a result, the electricity grid is less loaded by a heat network and houses have to be less radically insulated. The municipality has gained information in various municipalities such as Groningen, Deventer, Apeldoorn and Almelo where similar projects are already considered successful.

The municipality of Assen wants to start the construction in the Lariks-Noord district. Housing corporation Actium has many houses here. Moreover, the corporation already has plans to construct a heat network.

The intention is that the plan will be rolled out further after the start in the Lariks district.
