Heat and drought cause headaches for farmers

Franky Vanroose from Koekelare has been a farmer for twenty years. He mainly grows potatoes and maize. But it has rained too little in recent months. The heat is now on top of that and the ground was already completely dried out.

They need rain, but it will remain dry for the next fourteen days. Some farmers will therefore irrigate themselves. This costs a lot of money, especially due to the rising prices of fuels.

Moreover, potatoes ripen around the beginning of August, but that is already happening. Much too early and part of the income is lost.
