ROma, Jan. 30 – Is it possible to measure heart health and estimate the risk of developing overweight diseases and obesity? Just one meter from tailor. Measuring life circumference means certifying the amount of visceral abdominal fat, which is a predictive indicator with respect to the development of cardio metabolic pathologies. Obesity is a complex and multifactorial disease and its management requires a multidimensional approach. The first step is represented by prevention through a healthy lifestyle. However, when this is insufficient or not entirely effective, it is also possible to resort to drug therapy and, in selected cases, to bariatric surgery. And this is the message of the national campaign “For a healthy heart counts, every centimeter”, presented by the Italian Foundation for the heart with the patronage of the Ministry of Health.

The Italian Foundation campaign for the heart

“This campaign on obesity is another important point, demonstrating the historical role that the Italian Foundation for the heart has in the field of cardio-cerebrovascular prevention”, explains Emanuela Folco, president of the Italian Foundation for the heart.

Not a simple educational campaign, but an ambitious project that offers practical tools that will be spread transversely and that will last throughout the year, moving on to the World Day of Obesity in March until the World Heart Day of September.

For the Minister of Health Orazio Schillaci, “contrasting obesity means acting on one of the main risk factors for many chronic diseases, including cardio metabolic ones. Prevention is the most effective ally in this battle “. “The Ministry of Health – continues the minister in his greeting message – is constantly committed to promoting initiatives to spread the importance of healthy lifestyles. A balanced diet and regular physical activity, for example. They are not only recommendations – he concludes – but concrete tools that can make the difference in the lives of millions of people “.

“On the part of the Ministry, the awareness that this represents a great challenge and moments like today represent an opportunity, a comparison, a dialogue. Starting a communication campaign on these issues represents great added value “, underlines Andrea Costa, PNRR expert – Mission 6 for the Ministry of Health and already Undersecretary for Health.

The initiative, supported thanks to the non -conditioning contribution of Novo Nordisk, GVM Care & Research, Zentiva and Daiichi Sankyo, makes use of the support of 18 scientific societies and patient associations.

“We want to change the way the world sees, perceives, treats and prevents obesity. We do it with our civil commitment, in synergy with the institutions. Today we are here at the Ministry of Health to launch this campaign, we are honored “, highlights Alfredo Galletti, Corporate Vice President & General Manager – Novo Nordisk Italia.
