Healthcare institution Mare Bijzondere Zorg from Boxtel filed for bankruptcy on Tuesday. This is stated in a letter from the mayor and aldermen of Den Bosch to the municipal council. According to research by the municipalities in Northeast Brabant, Mare has over-declared 2.9 million euros in care in recent years.
Mare Bijzondere Zorg offers youth care to children and young people with serious problems. This concerns, for example, young people who can no longer live at home and need intensive guidance.
Mare offered accommodation with one-on-one guidance, among other things. This means that a young person receives personal guidance day and night. In recent years, approximately sixteen young people from the region have received this help. At the moment there are only eight young people.
Mare also guides approximately eighty young people who live at home, but receive extra help.
Investigate after signals
The municipalities of Bernheze, Boekel, Boxtel, Meierijstad, Oss, Den Bosch, Sint-Michielsgestel. Vught, Land van Cuijk and Maashorst started an investigation last year after complaints and signals that care was not always provided, even though it was declared. Reports had also been made to the inspection.
On January 29, Mare received a report with the results. It states that the institution overcharged millions of euros.
The municipalities have decided to demand that money back. Money owed to Mare was also seized. New payments have been stopped. As can be read in the council information letter.
Care stops immediately
Mare has now filed for bankruptcy itself. The organization has announced that care will stop immediately.
This has major consequences for the young people who receive help. An urgent search is being made for another place for the eight children who are now staying somewhere via Mare. A new care provider must also be found for young people who receive guidance at home.
According to the council, care for the children is now the priority. Parents have been informed and the municipalities say that they are doing everything they can to have the assistance taken over by other organizations as quickly as possible.
