Update: around 7.35 am the ANWB reports that the N9 is open for traffic again.

Top ten most accidents

It is not the first time that things go wrong on the N9. It turned out last April from research that the road is in the top ten of roads where the most accidents occur. Between 2017 and 2021, there were five fatal accidents and 84 casualty accidents here. Things often went wrong after this as well: last year, for example, May three people injured in a head-on collision near Burgerbrug and were hit in August two women seriously injured after a crash at Schoorl.

There were fatalities in October after a collision between a coach and a car near Bergen (a 20-year-old Schoorlaar who was living in rooms in IJmuiden) and last March with a 31-year-old man from The Hague who ended up on the wrong side of the road.

Measures have been advocated for years on this and other N-roads. It is one of the reasons why a section check on the N9 between Burgervlotbrug and Sint Maartensvlotbrug was started in 2021, although it still appears that people drive too fast too often.
