He was spared the jersey of the German World Cup teams

Musically, there was a lot going on at “Wetten Dass ..?” last Saturday (November 19). In addition to Herbert Grönemeyer’s new single, there were also classics like “Angels”, which Robbie Williams (48) played as an encore to his live performance. Around 3000 spectators were there live in the Friedrichshafen exhibition hall.

It was amazing how loud and sure of the lyrics the audience at Lake Constance was able to sing along. A festive “spontaneous” illumination was formed from thousands of mobile phone lights. As if in an oversized karaoke salon, the lyrics to the song ran behind the interview couch on a screen-sized teleprompter. The letters are nice and big and wide; for verses like “So when I’m lying in my bed / Thoughts running through my head / And I feel the love is dead / I’m loving angels instead!”

Quota king Thomas Gottschalk, who announced the name of national soccer player Giulia Gwinn (23) incorrectly several times, had a small letter problem. The one he called “Giuliana” let the micro faux pas drip off. The director then provided “Thommy” with a mega cheat sheet, a bit larger than the usual moderator cards. On-site reporters spotted “Giulia” in bold letters.

Incidentally, ex-Take That auditioner Robbie Williams managed to avoid a bet that would certainly have given him tough headlines in the British “Tabloid” press. Gottschalk and co-moderator Michelle Hunziker (45) had demanded a high ideal tribute from the Manchester City fan: he should pose in the jersey of the German national team. Ironically, on the Krauts’ flagship TV show.

According to a reporter’s observations, the shirt was already draped on the interview couch during the said bet – a candidate could recognize board games by the sound of the pouring out.

But Williams won the bet and could breathe a sigh of relief. It would have been too much fun to slip on the patty “just like that”.

A ZDF employee finally picked up the jersey and didn’t really know what to do with the good piece. A stagehand finally removed it from view of the curious media “lapwings”.

Once again, Robbie Williams came into focus. Rather involuntarily, because actor and “Stromberg” bad guy Christoph Maria Herbst knocked out another one. When Williams chatted about his idiosyncratic hairstyle and mentioned hair powder for better hold, there was a wet-brisk autumn swipe: “Better put powder in your hair than through your nose.”

The result was a perplexed look. Maybe Herbst didn’t know all the nasty details of William’s drug addiction, which he also made the main theme of one of his last songs? For the moment, the Mancunian by Heart seemed a little knocked out by the low blow.
