HC Erlangen fires trainer Michael Haaß

The handball Bundesliga club HC Erlangen has separated from coach Michael Haaß. Sports director Raul Alonso will, in addition to the sports management, take over the coaching position on an interim basis, like table 13. communicated from Franconia.

The personnel decision was made by the Franconian club as a consequence of the recent 16:24 in Leipzig.

“After the bitter defeat in Leipzig, we thoroughly analyzed the unsatisfactory performance of our team in the previous round, had a lot of discussions and ultimately realized that Michael Haass’ ideas unfortunately do not match those of HC Erlangen”, said Managing director René Selke in the association’s announcement: “In order to achieve the necessary stabilization of the performance, we decided with a heavy heart not to wait any longer.”

Ex-national player Haaß (38), 2007 world champion, had only been responsible as a coach since the start of the season. Sports director Alonso will only train the team temporarily until the club has “found a final solution”. The Bundesliga is currently paused due to the upcoming European Championship. The Erlanger will play their next game against MT Melsungen on February 9th.
