The three-time German champions SG Flensburg-Handewitt have moved up to third place in the Bundesliga handball league behind Füchsen Berlin and Rhein-Neckar Löwen.
Coach Maik Machulla’s team won against newly promoted ASV Hamm-Westfalen 37:23 (18:13) and is now one point ahead of fourth-placed record champions THW Kiel, who, however, have played two games less so far. Flensburg’s top scorer was national team captain Johannes Golla with nine goals.
The second climber VfL Gummersbach also went empty handed on Thursday. The team from Oberbergisch could not take advantage of a 14:10 half-time lead at MT Melsungen and lost clearly in the end with 22:28.
TSV Hannover-Burgdorf, on the other hand, saved the 29:28 (14:11) against HC Erlangen over time with a one-goal lead. In the table, Hanover, Erlangen and Gummersbach are close together in sixth to eighth place.
