HBL: Severe setback for HSG Wetzlar

Handball Bundesliga team HSG Wetzlar has to do without backcourt player Jovica Nikolic for several months.

As the club announced on Tuesday, the Serb will have to undergo an operation and will “in all likelihood be out until the beginning of next year”.

The player is “unfortunately no longer a predictable size for us. It will be a great challenge to find a suitable replacement for him at this point in time,” said HSG Managing Director Björn Seipp.

The 21-year-old injured his knee in April and hasn’t played a game since because of the persistent pain. In 2022, the left-hander moved from Serbia to Wetzlar and has so far played 22 Bundesliga games for HSG, in which he scored 40 goals.
