Melsungen remains leader in the handball Bundesliga even after the 15th matchday. The North Hesse team won 29:24 (14:11) at VfL Gummersbach on Monday.
The first half was entertaining with impressive goals on both sides and a slight advantage for the MT. They were able to go into the break with a three-goal lead.
However, this lead slowly melted away in the second round. After 49 minutes the hosts were ahead for the first time. The MT wavered, but it didn’t fall: In the final phase, the league leaders stayed cool and were able to win the game – and defend their top spot in the handball Bundesliga.
Flensburg.-H. and Magdeburg are showing muscles
SG Flensburg-Handewitt has set an exclamation mark after a turbulent weekend. Two days after parting ways with coach Nicolej Krickau, the North Germans won 38:37 (18:20) in a thrilling top game against Füchse Berlin and stayed in touch with the top group when Ljubomir Vranjes returned to the bench as interim coach.
SC Magdeburg made a clear statement to the Rhein-Neckar Löwen on Sunday. The Magdeburgers outclassed their opponents with 36:25 (18:10), the best shooter was Philipp Weber with seven goals. The SCM still has seven minus points, three more than the leader MT Melsungen. Juri Knorr scored six goals for the Lions.
Comeback from Hanover, demolition in Lemgo
TSV Hannover-Burgdorf also celebrated a clear victory a few hours later and remains the first pursuer of Melsungen – however, the team around Renars Uscins needed a brilliant spurt after a weak first half. At halftime, Hannover was behind HC Erlangen 13:18, but then scored ten goals in a row at the start of the second half. In the end it was 31:25, in which Marius Steinhauser scored eight goals and Uscins seven.
In Lemgo, the game against Potsdam, who still had no points, was abandoned in the ninth minute when the score was 6:3 for the hosts. After a fan suffered a medical emergency, the teams jointly decided not to continue the game. The affected person was responsive when leaving the hall, but was taken to a hospital.
Kiel continued its winning streak
THW Kiel continues to make progress, with SC DHfK Leipzig having their fifth success in a row. Bence Imre was the most successful thrower at 32:28 (18:15) with eight hits, seven of which were seven-meter shots (no missed attempts). Domagoj Duvnjak, Patrick Wiencek, Eric Johansson and Emil Wernsdorf Madsen also impressed with five goals. Lukas Binder scored eight goals for Leipzig. Kiel moved up to fourth place in the table (20:8 points).
