HBL: Coach change at Rhein-Neckar Löwen?

The troubled handball Bundesliga club Rhein-Neckar Löwen is apparently facing the commitment of coach Ljubomir Vranjes.

As the “Mannheimer Morgen” reports, the 48-year-old coach should take over the team until the end of the season.

According to the newspaper, the lions are also considering an early transfer of national goalkeeper Joel Birlehm, whose change from league competitor SC DHfK Leipzig was originally planned for next summer.

Vranjes was eliminated from the current European Championship with the Slovenian national team in the preliminary round.

The Swede was already under contract as a coach in the Bundesliga at SG Flensburg-Handewitt and won the Champions League with the Nordklub in 2014.

The lions, two-time German champions, are currently only eleventh in the table with 14:20 points. Klaus Gärtner, who was promoted to head coach about a year ago, is to take on the role of assistant again after the season and become Sebastian Hinze’s assistant coach.

The Bergisches HC coach will take over the lions for the coming season and is considered the ideal solution.
