Top woman Herna Verhagen said in a statement on Monday that PostNL is currently taking extra measures to control costs. But it is also clear, she says, that the higher costs cannot only be made up for by working more efficiently.

“Price adjustments will also be necessary in the near future,” Verhagen says. She does not mention details about how much the rates for, for example, sending parcels will increase.

Verhagen points out that inflation is also putting pressure on consumer spending. According to her, this is visible in the development of package volumes and would lead to unpredictability. PostNL’s market share should remain stable, but the company is slightly lowering its expectations for operating profit for the whole of this year.

Last quarter, the company’s total revenue fell 11 percent year-on-year to 746 million euros. The profit fell to 5 million euros, from 56 million euros in the same period last year.
